Steve Martin Has The Best Reaction To Only Murders In The Building’s Big Win At SAG Awards

It was a great night for the cast of Only Murders in the Building at the 31st SAG Awards. Held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles on February 23, the ceremony saw the cast clinching the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. While Steve Martin and Martin Short were not there at the show to celebrate the special achievement with the rest of the cast, Steve made sure to cheer for the achievements from home.
After the win, the 79-year-old actor shared a post on his Instagram account, congratulating the cast of Only Murders in the Building and giving a special shoutout to his ‘buddy’ Martin Short. The latter took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2025 SAG Awards. Steve posted a clip featuring Selena Gomez, Molly Shannon, Nikki Glaser, Michael Cyril Creighton and other cast members playfully, saying, “We still don’t believe it!" after winning the best ensemble award.

Meanwhile, at the ceremony, Selena Gomez was pleasantly surprised when Only Murders in the Building was announced as the winner among the nominees, which included Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks and Shrinking. During her speech, she playfully expressed, “Wait, we never win. This is so weird," before poking fun at her two veteran co-stars.
Selena continued, “Okay, well, Marty and Steve aren’t here because, you know, they don’t really care. But I’m just, I don’t know what to say. Thank you guys so much. Remember to thank Marty and Steve. Oh, and thank you to Marty and Steve for helping raise me."
Towards the end of her speech, the 32-year-old actress said, “But I genuinely am just so grateful everybody, the writers, everyone deserves this. And I take it home for all of us and I’m bringing this back to New York for season five. Thank you so much. I’m so grateful. Thank you, SAG-AFTRA. Thank you to everybody. I love you."
Speaking of Only Murders in the Building, the fourth season of the mystery comedy-drama premiered on Hulu in August 2024, and after 10 episodes, it concluded in October. The show features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as a trio of friends working on a true crime podcast investigating murder cases in their building.
